The main records
DNS translates a domain name into information machines can use.
- A and AAAA: IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the server.
- CNAME: alias to another name.
- MX: servers receiving the domain’s email.
- TXT: verifications and email sending rules (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
- NS: authoritative name servers of the domain.
- CAA: authorities allowed to issue certificates.
One DNS change can break everything
A mistake in the DNS zone makes a website or mailbox unreachable, and an unauthorised change can signal a hijack. MoniProbe can watch a record and alert you when it changes.
